The Tory MP announced the decision of his resignation and claimed that he was not given a fair hearing by the parliamentary team who is probing allegations against him and calling the investigation flawed. The team is investigating allegations that he made sexual advances to two women.

Who is David Warburton?

David Warburton is a British politician who took office as the Somerton and Frome Member of Parliament (MP) in 2015. He was first chosen as a Conservative Party representative in the general election of 2015, however, he was subject to suspension from the party in April 2022 pending the outcome of an inquiry by the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme (ICGS). The charges of harassment and drug usage were the focus of the investigation.

Before entering politics, Warburton was well-known for being the Pitch Entertainment Group’s founder, CEO, and chairman. However, Warburton decided to step down from his position as an MP on June 17, 2023, which immediately sparked a by-election to choose his successor.

Following David Warburton’s resignation as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Somerton and Frome, a by-election will be triggered in the Somerset constituency. His departure comes shortly after Boris Johnson and two of his allies resigned, adding to the political changes and transitions taking place within the region.

Recently, Warburton has denied harassment claims and said, “I was set up, but I have been naive and incredibly stupid. I have been prevented from saying that in the remaining case, the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards [Daniel Greenberg] himself declared its year-long investigation as ‘flawed’ – that it ought to be reinvestigated – but that due to its own lethargic pace and delays, we must accept it as it is”, as reported by Daily Mail.
