In an interview with a Lebanese TV channel, Ghazi Hamad, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, declared that the terror group plans to continue carrying out operations akin to the one on October 7 until they believe Israel to be destroyed.

Hamad in an interview said, “Israel is a country that has no place on our land. We must remove it because it constitutes a security, military and political catastrophe to the Arab and Islamic nation. We are not ashamed to say this.”

He added, “We must teach Israel a lesson, and we will do it twice and three times. The al-Aqsa Deluge [the name Hamas gave its October 7 onslaught] is just the first time.”

Who is Ghazi Hamad?

Palestinian politician Ghazi Hamad is a prominent figure in the Hamas organization. He is fluent in Arabic, English, and Hebrew and has a bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine from the Islamic University of Gaza.

Over his tenure, Hamad has occupied prominent roles in the Hamas administration, such as Chairman of the Gaza Strip’s Border Crossings Authority and Deputy Foreign Minister. In addition, he held the position of chief editor of the now-defunct Al Watan newspaper, owned by Hamas, and the weekly Ar-Risala daily.

He is a contentious character in the Israeli-Palestinian issue. Both Israelis and Palestinians have criticized him, accusing him of encouraging violence against Israelis and supporting terrorism.

The two main Palestinian political parties, Hamas and Fatah, have been aggressively promoting communication and reconciliation through various programs that Hamad has been actively involved in in recent years. Additionally, he has been a strong supporter of the creation of an independent Palestinian state and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

Ghazi Hamad is the spokesperson for the Palestinian government currently run by Hamas as of October 2023.
