Debutant Matthew Potts took a wicket with his fifth ball
in Test cricket when he got rid of New Zealand captain Kane Williamson for two.

He finished the first session of the Lord’s Test with three scalps against his name. 

Who is Matthew Potts?

Matthew Potts, 23, is a right-arm fast bowler who made
his England debut in the first Test against New Zealand at Lord’s on Thursday.
He represents Durham in the County Championship 2022 Division Two, alongside
England’s Test captain Ben Stokes.

Potts was born on October 29, 1998, in Sunderland,
England. He made his first-class debut for Durham in the 2017 County
Championship on June 8, 2017. He made his Kist A debut for Durham in the 2018
Royal London One-day Cup on May 18, 2018. His first T20 appearance came on July
19, 2019, for Durham against Northamptonshire, in the 2019 t20 Blast.

In April 2022 he was signed up by the Northern
Superchargers for the 2022 edition of The Hundred. To date, he has taken 77
first-class wickets at a 26.9 bowling average with four five-fors. He also has
16 List A and 49 T20 wickets from 10 and 40 matches, respectively.

In the 2022 County Championship, Potts bagged his maiden five-wicket
haul in first-class cricket, with 6/58 against Leicestershire. Last week, he
took 4/61 and 7/40 in the 58-run win against Glamorgan. Against Worcestershire,
he took 6 wickets for 62 runs, which included the wicket of Azhar Ali for a
second-ball duck in a successful opening burst. Haseeb Hameed and Ben Duckett
were his other notable wickets in a glorious season so far.

Potts will be a part of the pace attack which includes
veterans like James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Craig Overton.
