Pedro González López is a Spanish professional footballer popularly known as Pedrik. He plays as a central midfielder for Barcelona and the Spain national team. He made his professional debut on August 18 in 2019 at the age of 16 only, by starting in a 0-1 home loss against Huesca in the Segunda Division.

Pedri took his first footballing steps in the youth categories of his hometown club UD Tegueste. Initially, scouts from the island’s giants CD Tenefire considered him to be too small and skinny to excel at the top level. Later CD Tenefire tried to sign him, but at that time Pedri has already committed to Juventud Laguna, another club on the island with an excellent reputation for creating players.

Pedri joined Las Palmas’s youth setup in 2018 and he signed a professional four-year contract with the club in 2019. He was promoted to the first team by the manager Pepe Mel. In 2019, Barcelona reached an agreement with Las Palmas for the transfer of Pedri, with effect from July 2020. He signed a five-year contract with the Catalan club and was paid  €5 million for the deal.

Pedri scored his first professional goal, netting the game’s only one in-a-home victory over Sporting Gijón, and became the youngest goalscorer in Las palmas history at 16 years. Pedri was assigned to the main squad for the 2020-21 season and with the number 16 jersey, he made his Barcelona and La Liga debut on 27 September in 2020.

Pedri scored his first goal for the club on his UEFA Championships League debut. In January 2021, he won his first-ever trophy in his senior career after Barcelona beat Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final. He made his 50th appearance for Barcelona in all competitions, thus becoming the second-youngest player to reach this milestone after Bojan Krkić, who was 18 years old at the time he reached 50 appearances.
