Who is Rut Perez?

Rut Perez is 17 years old. She has muscular dystrophy. The girl and her father, Eric, disappeared after Hamas fighters violently invaded the Supernova music festival on October 7 as part of their onslaught in Israel.

Her sister Yamit has been pleading with anyone who knows where they are to come forward urgently on social media. Yamit and friends had departed the celebration early.

Yamit has begged Hamas to let her father take care of Rut in the event that they are still being held captive. Yamit’s wheelchair-dependent mother Elinor was among hundreds of relatives in Tel Aviv to hear the latest on the ongoing efforts to return the approximately 150 hostages that Hamas is thought to have abducted and transported to Gaza following the raid last Saturday.

Yamit has not heard from her father or sister since the assault rifle-wielding attackers showed up at the desert festival in pickup trucks and opened fire on guests.

Her social media messages, in which she begs anyone with knowledge of her father and sister’s whereabouts to come forward, reveal her deep grief. She wrote in a post the day following Hamas’ invasion, “I trust in God, and God is always with me.” And he helps me find my dad and sister because he keeps them alive.
