Pakistan left-handed batter Shan Masood made headlines on Friday, October 21, when he suffered a head injury when a Mohammad Nawaz shot hit him during a net session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). According to several reports, the 33-year-old was on the ground for a long time before he was transported to a hospital, where scans were conducted on him.

Masood, who was called up as a replacement for Fakhar Zaman at the T20 World Cup, made his debut in the shortest format of the game on September 20 against England. Updates regarding his latest conditions are yet to be made by the authorities.

Who is Shan Masood?

Shan Masood is a left-handed batter who represents Pakistan in all three formats of the game. He was born on October 14, 1989, in Kuwait City, Kuwait. His father Mansoor Masood Khan used to work as a banker in Kuwait, while his mother is a housewife. They moved back to Pakistan after the Gulf War broke out.

Masood has two siblings and he is the eldest of them. However, his sister recently died and Masood conveyed the news on his Instagram account.

Shan Masood attended the Stamford School in the United Kingdom before he pursued a degree in Economics from Durham University. He later also pursued another degree in Management and Sports Sciences from Loughborough University’s distance education program.

He picked up an interest in cricket from a young age and made his first-class debut in 2007 for Karachi. Later, he became the vice-captain of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the 2018 edition of the Pakistan Cup. The next year, he became the captain of Southern Punjab in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy tournament.

Currently, he is the captain of Bagh Stallions in the controversial Kashmir Premier League. He has also played county cricket for Derbyshire and is supposed to join Yorkshire in the 2023 season.

Masood made his Pakistan debut against South Africa in Sharjah in a Test match on October 14, 2013. However, Masood made his ODI and T20I debut much later in his career. His ODI debut came on March 22, 2019, against Australia, whereas his T20I debut was against England on September 20.

He has scored 1,378 runs from 25 matches in Test cricket. Meanwhile, he has scored 111 runs and 220 runs in ODI and T20I cricket respectively so far in his career.
