Queen Elizabeth II died at 96, after remaining the monarch of England for 70 years. She was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, on April 21, 1926, in Mayfair, London.
After her death, the Royal Family released a statement saying “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne was in 1953, after the death of her father, and since then, she’s seen the nation go through numerous changes, like transforming into a commonwealth from being an empire. She’s also seen several Prime Ministers change including Winston Churchill. Most recently, the queen appointed Liz Truss as Britain’s next PM after Boris Johnson stepped down.
