The female variant of Loki has been the much talked about element in the MCU’s Loki series. Moreover, the fact that Loki – the God of Mischief had fallen for her (as shown in episode 4) is even more exciting. However, for some fans, Loki-Sylvie romance is not what’s they actually wanted. In episode 4, Loki and Sylvie aka Lady Loki were seen trapped on the ravaged moon of Lamentis-1. Initially, their relationship started out peevish %u2013 as two Loki variants in the same place. However, with their death seemingly approaching, their behaviour somewhat changed from prickly to supportive and warmed up to one another. At the end of the episode, Loki seemed, if not to entirely like Sylvie, then at least respect her.

Nevertheless, episode 4 of Loki revealed that his feelings for her actually were much more deeper than expected as romantic feelings grasped him by surprise. Mobius, on the other hand was understandably disappointed after Loki had escaped and violated his trust (according to fan theory, Loki is the true love of Mobius and vice-versa).
Mobius said, “You like her! Two variants of the same being, especially you, forming this sick, twisted romantic relationship… What an incredible, seismic narcissist %u2013 you fell for yourself!”

It is important to note that Loki didn’t fall for Sylvie because he’s a narcissist but he fell for her for the opposite reason: self-loathing. Notably, the running theme of Loki has been that ‘how things appear on the surface is not necessarily how they really are’. To sum it up, duality is the theme around which Loki revolves.

Loki is deeply insecure and that is exactly why the only person he ever could have fallen in love with is himself or, in this case, a version of himself. Also, Loki truly thinks he deserves to be alone as we have seen Mobius asking Loki in the time loop, “Do you really think you deserve to be alone?” to which Loki replies, “I don’t know.”

Falling in love with Sylvie (himself), is the only person he will allow himself to fall for because he apparently doesn’t deserve anyone other than his own wretched self as he feels deep guilt and self-loathing for the pranks and villainous acts he has committed in his life.
