After the first half, both sides were in a deadlock of 0-0. However, early in the second half, Switzerland got a great chance to score when a solid pass went to Breel Embolo. Embolo made no mistake and kicked the ball hard, the ball missed Cameroon goalie Andre Onana by a whiskers and helped Switzerland go past Cameroon, 1-0 at the 48th minute.
However, Embolo didn’t celebrate the goal as he was born in Cameroon. After going ahead, Switzerland held on to the lead thanks to the agility of their goal-keeper Yann Sommer. Switzerland came agonisingly close to scoring a second goal in the injury time (6 minutes for the match).

Breel Embolo was born on February 14, 1997 at Yaounde, Cameroon’s capital city. However, after his parents separated when he was very young, he moved to France along with his mother before moving to Switzerland, as his step father was Swiss.
Embolo kick-started him professional career for Switzerland after debuting in 2015 in a friendly International encounter against the USA at Basel. Since then, he has represented Switzerland in the UEFA Euro 2016, 2018 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2020 and also 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Embolo’s gesture was widely appreciated for its civility and gentlemanliness. Switzerland scored an extremely important win as they are placed in the same group as Cup favorites and South American soccer titans, Brazil. On the other hand, qualification for Cameroon becomes extremely difficult with their Brazil encounter yet to occur.
