Ravindra Jadeja has lost all three matches as Chennai Super Kings’ skipper in IPL 2022. His latest defeat came against the Punjab Kings on Sunday. The four-time champions are currently placed ninth on the points table.
Riding on all-rounder Liam Livingstone’s show, Punjab Kings defeated CSK by 54 runs at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
Facing the heat early in his captaincy stint, Jadeja said that he is lucky to have a he cool head of MS Dhoni to rely upon.

Ahead of the 2022 season, Dhoni had handed over the captaincy to Jadeja. However, questions were raised when the former skipper was seen setting the field and taking decisions while his successor stood in the deep during CSK’s match vs Lucknow Super Giants. It seemed like it was MSD who handed the ball to Shivam Dube in the 19th over. The 28-year-old gave away 25 runs.
Explaining the situation, Jadeja said that Dhoni spoke to the bowlers because he could not.

“No, the last match (against LSG) was a high scoring game so there are chances of catches at deep mid wicket and our thinking was that it would be better a good fielder had to be there. So, I was not able to communicate with the bowlers much,” Jadeja said after the loss to PBKS.
MSD was criticised by the likes of Ajay Jadeja and Parthiv Patel for undermining Jadeja’s role as captain.
Ravindra Jadeja, however, said that he is lucky to have Dhoni’s experience and advice.

“But Mahi bhai gives inputs, that is good, he is so experienced so we don’t have to look anywhere else for advice. He’s a legend, and has been captaining for so many years, that experience is there in our dressing room only so we are lucky to have his advice.”
The CSK skipper insisted that he felt ready to lead the side when he was informed about his new role.
“I have been preparing for captaincy since I was told me a few months ago. Mentally I was ready to lead, I didn’t have any pressure on me, backed my instincts, just thinking and whatever thoughts come in my mind I go for it.”
The Chennai Super Kings need one win to gain momentum and get back to winning, Jadeja said.
“In T20 cricket only one match is required to gain momentum and then the winning streak begins. We are searching for that one win. Once that comes, everyone is experienced in the team and know their roles. We are just working hard to get in the rhythm and waiting for our plans to click.”
