England comfortably chased down India’s score of 134 runs on Wednesday at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, strengthing their position in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup.
Heather Knight, the skipper of England, managed to score a half-century for her team and gave a significant push to the total. Knight scored 53 of 72.

The spinner-pacer combination used by the English side seemed to push India into a corner as Charlotte Dean dismissed four players while Anya Shrubsole picked up two wickets. India was bowled out in 36.2 overs.
However, the Indian side seemed to be hopeful early in the second innings and England got off to a rocky start. Opening batter Dani Wyatt and Tammy Beaumont were dismissed early by India’s star bowlers Jhulan Goswami and Meghna Singh.
Nat Sciver, who came in two down, joined skipper Heather Knight in powering England to an easy win. Sciver scored 45 runs off 46 deliveries and maintained a strike rate of 97.82. Charlotte Dean was named player of the match, claiming four wickets in 8.2 overs and giving away 23 runs.

Two of India’s players — Sneh Rana (2 deliveries) and Deepti Sharma (10 deliveries)– were dismissed for a duck. India’s Meghna Singh also attempted to do similar damage to the England side but only managed to dismiss Katherine Brunt on a duck.
India is currently in the third spot on the points table, winning two out of four games and a net run rate of +0.632. The English side, which won its first game against India on Wednesday in the ongoing competition, is at the sixth spot. Australia currently leads the points table without suffering any defeat.
