As many as 24 COVID-19 patients died in Karnataka’s Chamarajanagar due to shortage of oxygen supply and other reasons, ANI reported on Monday. “We are waiting for the death audit report,” said Minister Suresh Kumar.

The massive surge in COVID-19, as India battles a second wave, has induced a shortage of medical oxygen in a number of hospitals across India. The hospitals have been sending SOS alerts over the depleting stock.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa spoke to Chamarajanagar district collector over the incident. He has called for an emergency Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the District Incharge Minister S Suresh Kumar has ordered a probe into the deaths and said strict action will be taken against those responsible for the oxygen supply shortage, the news agency reported.  IAS officer Shivayogi Kalasada will submit a report over the incident in the next three days.

On Friday, as many as 12 patients died at a Delhi hospital due to oxygen supply shortage. Last week, 25 COVID-19 patients died due to the same reason.
