Paul Herman, who is known for playing roles in many award-winning movies including ‘Goodfellas‘ and ‘The Irishman‘ died on Tuesday. It was his 76th birthday on March 29, 2022 – the day of his death.

“We are deeply saddened at the loss of our beloved Paul Herman,” his representative T Keaton-Woods said in a statement to USA TODAY. ” A true character on and off screen. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and we will always remember the sound of his laughter and bold spirit. We ask that you respect the privacy of the family at this time.”

No details of what caused his death was revealed as of Thursday morning.

Herman’s began his acting career in the ’80s with small roles in TV and movies. He made it big after he was given ‘The Sopranos’ where he played Beansie Gaeta, an associate of Tony Soprano. Herman appeared in the HBO series from 2000 to 2007.

Sopranos co-star Michael Imperioli, who played Christopher Moltisanti in the series, mourned the loss of Herman and called him “a great dude” and “a first class storyteller and raconteur and one hell of an actor.”

“Paulie lived around the corner from me the last few years and I am glad we got to spend some time together before he left us. I’ll miss him,” he wrote alongside a photo of Herman.

Herman appeared in several Oscar-nominated movies including ‘The Irishman,’ ‘Silver Linings Playbook,’  ‘American Hustle’ and ‘Goodfellas.’

In 2009’s Crazy Heart, Herman played the manager of Jeff Bridges’ character.

Alongside his acting career, Herman ran the Columbus Cafe in the 1990s with his brother Charlie. The cafe was located across from Lincoln Center – an area frequented by actors, ballet dancers, gangsters, and FBI and DEA agents. He also had a small ownership stake in the cafe.
