Peter Aykroyd, a former Saturday Night Live (SNL) cast member and writer, has died at the age of 66. Peter was remembered on SNL with a title card that featured a picture of him during his time on the NBC sketch show in 1979. The Ottawa, Canada, native was born November 19, 1955 to Lorraine and (Samuel Cuthbert) Peter Hugh Aykroyd. Along with his older brother, actor-comedian Dan Aykroyd, Peter was a member the Second City comedy troupe in Toronto. The brothers also worked together on SNL.

Peter’s foray into entertainment began with minor roles in The New Avengers and Second City Television (SCTV) before joining SNL as both a writer and featured cast member in 1979 for a season, a stint that earned him a Primetime Emmy Awards nomination in the Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program, along with other members of the SNL team.
