As Omicron surges, so do the assumptions around it. A
bizarre new claim has recently been spiralling on the internet, suggesting that
snorting dry ginger powder can help cure the new variant of the virus.

The claim was made in a video of an anonymous man, who is
seen propagating the idea of taking ginger powder in one’s hand and snorting it
twice a day.

 The man then goes
on to explain the efficacy behind it, stating that because dried ginger has a
highly alkaline and pH nature, the mixture eradicates
the low pH virus
inside.

Soon after the video went viral, the man was speculated
to be Dr
Sushil Razdan and Dr Zarir Udwadia by a few viewers. A social media page shared
the video with the caption, “Dr Sushil Razdan is a famous neurologist of
India. He is suggesting the Ayurvedic method for covid.”

Kashmir Express, an online information and news person also
identified the person as Dr. Sushil Razdan.

 Not
surprisingly, the bizarre claim has been deduced to be false, according to a
fact checking report by The Logical Indian.

Furthermore, the man in the video is neither Dr.
Sushil Razdan nor Dr. Zarir Udwadia. The identity check was verified through a
tweet by IANS, that had shared an authentic photo of Dr. Razdan. Moreover, the
doctor appeared on a Facebook live session with RJ Nasir, a radio jockey from Jammu
& Kashmir, who had interviewed him regarding the bizarre claim.

According
to The National Academies of Sciences Engineering Medicine, while ginger has
the ability to cure nausea, the spice cannot cure or prevent the novel
coronavirus and its variants. The study also states that virus and other infections
spread throughout the body via multiplying, and no dietary items including
ginger can halt the multiplication process in the body.

According to The
Logical Indian, no foods high in alkalinity can cure a virus like Covid-19.
Furthermore, viruses, being non-water based, do not have pH levels.
