A sarcastic
advertisement from Iceland has mocked Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s efforts to
rebrand his company as Meta by introducing audiences to the reality of
‘Icelandverse’.
It’s been two weeks
since Mark Zuckerberg announced that his company was rebranding as Meta, but
online trolling of the move has not stopped.

Iceland’s tourism
authorities took a dig at the founder of Facebook and Meta in their latest
video. Using language such as Zuckerberg’s presentation of Meta and
“Metaverse”, Iceland Tourism released a video inviting people to
become part of “Icelandverse”, a “new”, “more focused”
and “real” world. In this video, Icelandic actor and writer Jorundur
Ragnarsson portrays the role of “chief visionary officer Zack
Mosbergsson”.
Dressed in black,
he describes the move in the same way as Zuckerberg in a video released
during the Meta launch. His hair and body language also imitate those of the
tech czar.

The video has been
titled, “Introducing the Icelandverse”. The caption to the video shared on
Facebook reads, “The next evolution of social connection, millions of years in
the making, Icelandverse”. The video has garnered more than 9.12 lakh views and
received over 800 comments.
“Today,
I want to talk about a revolutionary approach on how to connect our world,
without being super weird. Some said it’s not possible. Some said it’s out of
reach. To them, we say ‘it’s already here’… and what do we call this
not-so-new chapter in human connectivity? The Icelandverse,” says the actor in
the video.
“Amazing. I need to
make a trip to Icelandverse soon. Glad you’re wearing sunscreen too,”
Zuckerberg wrote in the comments section, possibly in reference to his infamous
sunscreen photo from Hawaii.

The
authorities responded, saying, “Oh, hi Mark! You’re always welcome.
Icelandverse is open 24/7!”
Another
user commented, “Mark Zuckerberg is that you? But with another voice over?”
The video showed
the actor struggling to open the door. Many saw this as a reference to
Zuckerberg, who is said to wait for people to open doors for him.
“I seriously
cracked up at the door scene. I still have trouble opening doors here,” one
user said.
