Dr Charanjit Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has defeated Punjab Chief Minister and INC candidate Charanjit Singh Channi from the Chamkaur Sahib assembly constituency by 7,942 votes.

Chamkaur Sahib assembly constituency has Charanjit Singh Channi of the Indian National Congress (INC) taking on Harmohan Singh (SAD-BSP nominee), Darshan Singh Shivjot of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Dr. Charanjit Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) this year in the Punjab assembly elections.

Charanjit Singh Channi of the Indian National Congress had won the Chamkaur Sahib seat in 2017. Channi had beaten his closest rival Dr. Charanjit Singh by over 12,308 votes. Dr. Charanjit Singh had contested that election on an AAP ticket.

In 2012, the seat was won by Charanjit Singh Channi of the INC.

Chamkaur Sahib falls under the Rupnagar district and the Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha constituency, which is made up of nine assembly seats.

Manish Tewari of the INC represented Anandpur Sahib as a member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Tewari defeated Prem Singh Chandumajra from the SAD with a margin of 46,884 votes.

The Chamkaur Sahib assembly constituency will vote in a single phase of the Punjab elections on February 20, 2022, along with 116 other constituencies.  

Results will be declared on March 10, along with those for elections in four other states, including Uttarakhand.
