Netflix has revealed the first look at the Addams family for the upcoming series Wednesday, which focuses on the daughter in the eccentric American household.
The streaming service introduced the cast, where Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Morticia and Luis Guzman plays the Addams family patriarch. Jenna Ortega appears as the titular Wednesday in the Tim Burton show.
Netflix Con Todo shared a closer look at Guzman’s character, hailing the actor for “his humour, charisma, talent and eclectic 40-year-acting resume.” The OTT service has described Wednesday as a supernaturally infused sleuthing mystery which shows the titular character as a Nevermore Academy student. She fights terror, solves mysteries, learns to harness her power, and navigates relationships while at this school.

Showrunner Miles Millar spoke to Vanity Fair about the upcoming series saying it didn’t feel like a reboot and more like an “eight-hour Tim Burton movie”.
“It’s something that lives within the Venn diagram of what happened before, but it’s its own thing”, he explained, adding, “It’s not trying to be the movies or the ’60s TV show. That was very important to us and very important to Tim.”

Burton is attached as an executive producer, and co-showrunner Alfred Gough recalled how the famous director had quickly expressed an interest to be involved in the series.
“He was interested in where it was going, the mystery of the show”, he said, adding, “He had a lot of questions about the previous television work we’d done, like how we were able to achieve it. He really loved that you had time to be with Wednesday and explore the character and you didn’t have to, you know, wrap things up in an hour and 45 minutes.”
