Trey Lance tossed three interceptions during San Francisco 49ers’ practice. One landed in safety Talanoa Hufanga’s hands after a tip by cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, the second was hauled by Moseley and third one landed in the hands of linebacker Fred Warner.

Lance played in the opening preseason game of the 2022 season against the Green Bay Packers, where he had one passing touchdown and threw for a total of 92 yards.

Who is Trey Lance?

 Trey Lance is an American football player who plays for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted as the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the 49ers. He subsequently signed a four-year rookie contract, worth $34.1 million, on July 28, 2021. Trey Lance was named the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers ahead of the 2022 NFL Season.  

Trey Lance was born on May 9, 2000 in Marshall city of Minnesota and attended the namesake high school. He received offer as a wide receiver or defensive back to play for his University of Minnesota’s Golden Gophers football team but rejected this idea. He eventually committed to play at North Dakota Stae in 2017.

College Career: –

  Lance was redshirted for the 2018 season but played in two games where he recorded two rushing touchdowns. He took the team to 2020 NCAA Division Football Championship Game where his team won by 28-20 against the James Maddison Dukes. For his performance in the game, he was named the MVP.

Lance finished the season completing 192 of 287 passes for 2,786 yards, 28 touchdowns, and no interceptions, setting an NCAA record for most passing attempts without an interception in a season. The player also had 14 rushing TD for 1100 yards. That season, he won the Walter Payton Award and Jerry Rice Award for being the FCS’s most outstanding offensive player and FCS’s best freshman, respectively. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lance announced after the game that he would opt out to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.

NFL Career:- 

Lance was the 49ers’ first first-round quarterback selection since Alex Smith in 2005. He started the 2021 season as the backup to incumbent starter Jimmy Garoppolo, but made his NFL debut in the season-opening 41-33 road victory over the Detroit Lions.

Lance scored a rushing touchdown on the first play of Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers, but the 49ers were defeated 28-30. Lance was named the starter for the Week 5 game against the Arizona Cardinals due to the injury to Jimmy Garoppolo.

In his rookie season, he appeared in six games (two of which he started) and threw for five touchdowns and 603 yards while also running for 168 yards and a rushing touchdown.
