The gorgeous tropical fruit known as dragon fruit, often called pitaya or the strawberry pear, is sweet and crisp. The plant from which the fruit is produced is actually a species of cactus belonging to the Hylocereus genus, which has roughly 20 different species.

Dragon fruit is currently produced and consumed all over the world, having first gained popularity in Southeast Asia and Latin America. Despite having a pinkish-red skin and light green scales, this odd fruit is simple to prepare. It tastes great in fruit salads, it can be used to make delectable cocktails and sweets, and it makes a great, healthy snack all by itself.

There are four different types of the fruit; three have pink skin, one has white flesh, one has red flesh, and the third has purple flesh. The fourth variation features white flesh and yellow skin. Like kiwifruit, all of them have tiny edible black seeds. Due to its distinctive appearance, this tropical fruit is especially delicious when added to drinks.

Simply split the fruit in half and scoop out the flesh with a spoon to prepare it. Dragon fruit can be a little expensive, depending on the type and the region where it was grown.
