James Webb Telescope

Hubble Space Telescope

Chandra X-Ray Observatory

Kepler space telescope

Answer: James Webb Telescope

The James Webb Telescope recently discovered the exoplanet called HIP 65426 b that is 12 times larger that Jupiter. This was the first time the US’ National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA) took an image of a planet outside the solar system. HIP 65426 b is a gas giant and has no rocky surface and could not be habitable, according to a NASA blog.

That the James Webb Telescope’s infrared gaze was able to capture was able to capture world’s outside the solar system indicated that in the future taking pictures of exoplanets will not be a challenge.

The operation was spearheaded by Sasha Hinkley, an associate professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Exeter in the UK. “This is a transformative moment, not only for Webb but for astronomy generally,” Hinkley said after the pictures were taken.

The HIP 65426 b exoplanet is six to 12 times the mass of Jupiter and more research may help narrow down the difference. It is a young planet, about 15 to 20 million years old. The Earth is 4.5 billion years old.
