The first three episodes of Andor season 1, the latest output from the Star Wars franchise, were released on September 21. The series tells the backstory of Cassian Andor, an intelligence officer working for the Rebel Alliance affiliate whom we had first met in Rogue One (2016). In Andor, we follow the backstory of Cassian Andor five years before the events of Rogue One as well as during his childhood, when he is called Kassa on his home planet, Kenari. In the series, we also get to meet Maarva Andor, Cassian Andor’s adoptive mother.
Who is Maarva Andor?
Maarva Andor is a human in the Star Wars universe who is the adoptive mother of Cassian Andor. She had first met Andor when he was a child on the planet Kenari. Only six years of age, Cassian was then known as Kassa. Along with a group of children who had survived on Kenari, Kassa had gone to investigate a crashed ship on their planet, only for their leader to be killed by one of the survivors.

During this event, Maarva, along with her partner Clem Andor, was rummaging through the wrecked ship, trying to find parts that could be smuggled. She met Kassa when he was taking out his frustration of losing a friend on the consoles of the ship by smashing them to pieces.
It did not take Martha a long time to understand the implications of leaving such a small child all alone on the planet, and decided to adopt him despite Clem saying that Kassa does have his friends on the planet to protect him. Kassa is then taken to the planet Ferrix by the couple.

This is also the time when Kassa first meets B2EMO, Maarva’s droid, which continues to live with them well into Cassian’s adulthood, and even lies for him with great difficulty. It apparently takes a huge amount of power for droids like B2EMO in the Star Wars universe to lie, something humans (both on the side of the Rebellion and the Preox-Morlana corporate government) manage to do so well.
