Dak Prescott, the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, took on the field for the first time since injuring his right thumb in Week 1. He faces the Detroit Lions at the AT&T Stadium on Sunday. 

Prescott missed five games, Week 2 to 6, after he fractured the thumb on his throwing hand in the opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cooper Rush filled in for him.

The 29-year-old quarterback was medically cleared to play the Sunday game. Ahead of the clash, he said, “It’s about staying where my feet are. Just thankful I went out there and had a good practice. Just put my mind right where I am, and when I look up I’ll be prepared ready to go for Sunday.”

Prescott’s return, however, was met with a sack in the first quarter. Detroit’s Aidan Hutchinson beat Tyler Smith with a swipe-rip to get the Lions a third-down sack against the Cowboys.

Prescott threw 40 passes during a scaled-back practice Wednesday coming off the primetime loss to the Eagles with first place in the NFC East on the line.

“I thought he looked very good,” McCarthy said. “We’ll look to expand that (Thursday) and put him in the lead chair as far as reps just to give him the opportunity to prepare to play.”

Prescott joked that he threw 140 passes in a full practice Thursday, his way of saying he wasn’t on a pitch count with his throws.

“I wasn’t limited by any means,” Prescott said.

In Dallas’ Week 6 game, Cooper Rush threw three interceptions. The Cowboys lost 17-26 against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. 

Rush passed for 181 yards and one touchdown against the Eagles. He has 839 passing yards and four TD throws so far.
