The temple shown here is the Maheshwar temple. Maheshwar is a town in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, close to the city of Khargone. It is situated on State Highway 38 (the Khargone-Barwaha-Bandheri Highway), 13.5 kilometres east of National Highway 3 (the Agra-Mumbai Highway), and 91 kilometres from Indore, the state’s commercial hub.
The town is located on the Narmada River’s north bank. It belonged to Chaktavartin Samrat Sahastraarjun, a monarch of the Heheya people and a Kartavirya Arjuna. It served as the Malwa region’s capital for a brief while during the Maratha Holkar era, from 6 January 1818 until Malhar Rao Holkar III moved the capital to Indore.
