The Rose Parade and Rose Bowl game, took place a day later this year, rather than the usual January 1 or New Year’s Day.

On the morning of January 1, the Rose Parade parade, which is famous for its beautiful and lavish florally decorated floats, usually aids in bringing in the new year. The event was held on January 2 in 2023 for the 20th time in the 134-year history of the event.

This is due to a long-standing custom of the Parade’s organiser, the Tournament of Roses Association, to never hold the Parade on a Sunday.

On New Year’s Day since 1890, the parade has been held. The parade was originally scheduled to take place on a Sunday in 1893, but organisers decided to reschedule it to the following day in order to avoid disturbing religious ceremonies or frightening horses tied up in front of the churches.

The tradition has continued since and last happened in 2017.

California’s Pasadena is the location of the Rose Parade. Having been held for the first time by the Valley Hunt Club in 1890, it is now in its 134th year. After that, Utah and Penn State will played in the Rose Bowl, which is a college football bowl game. Before the Rose Bowl was built, a chariot racing followed the parade.

The procession, which has a total length of five and a half miles, started at the intersection of Green Street and Orange Grove Boulevard. The parade then headed east onto Colorado Blvd., where the majority of parade spectators typically congregate, after travelling north on Orange Grove Blvd. at a leisurely two and a half mile per hour pace.
