The Met Costume Institute exhibition, popularly known as the Met Gala, opened its door on September 13. The fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City witnessed who’s who from the world of arts, cinema, and culture, gracing the red carpet with their phenomenal fashion looks.
Though many celebrities graced the runway with their edgy and iconic looks keeping in mind this year's theme that was American Independence, singer Rihanna's look was the true show-stopper. She kept it all black in a Balenciaga ensemble for her red carpet look and was also seen getting cosy with her 32-year-old rapper boyfriend 'ASAP Rocky', who also wore an oversized coat to the couple’s first Met Gala together.
Rihanna was the last celebrity to appear on the 2021 Met Gala red carpet and her stunning Balenciaga overcoat and matching hat is certainly going to be remembered for being quirky and sassy. The custom look by Demna Gvasalia was unlike anything she had worn previously.
Its black ruffles and voluminous scale were a chic interpretation of all-American style, reports Vogue.com.
While her look grabbed eyeballs, her late entry didn't go down well with some of the social media users.
Met Gala was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Rihanna had skipped the fashion fundraiser's 2019 edition after co-hosting Met Gala 2018 event alongside Anna Wintour, Amal Clooney and Donatella Versace.
