The Crown, since its premiere in 2016, has been the talk of the town and the apparent reason for it was the engaging plot and the Royals. As depicted, the series drew major attention and gained popularity by projecting intense characters and an intriguing plot centered around beloved historical figures, particularly the late Princess Diana.

Nevertheless, with a set up, similar to the real life residence of the Royal family, viewers can’t help but wonder if the filming actually took place at Buckingham Palace. Well, despite its close resemblance in the series, unfortunately, the answer is NO.

The series was filmed in different locations across the United Kingdom, which certainly guaranteed a impactful result. The production used the Greenwich Naval College for exterior shots of the palace, however, interior scenes were shot in several different locations in UK itself, according to Independent.
Here are few locations that The Crown used for its filming:
Wrotham Park: Moments in the Queen’s audience room, where she has her private conversations with Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson), were recorded at Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire.

Lancaster House: The scenes where Camilla goes to visit Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace were filmed at Lancaster House. It is one of the several locations that stand in for the Queen’s iconic London home, Buckingham Palace.
Wilton House: Wilton House in Salisbury served as the predominate filming location for interior shots of Buckingham Palace. It has stood in for the Queen’s official royal residence in multiple seasons of The Crown.

Caernarfon Castle: Prince Charles’s investiture as the Prince of Wales was filmed at Caernarfon Castle in Gwynedd, north-west Wales, where the 1969 ceremony actually took place.
Winchester Cathedral: The church in southern Englands recreated St. Paul’s during scenes from Winston Churchill’s historical funeral.

Hylands House: In the season 3 of The Crown, Princess Margaret took a trip to the States, and even met with sitting President Lyndon B. Johnson. But for filming, the series found Hylands House, which resembles White House.
Algeciras: The beach in Spain stands in for Princess Margaret’s Caribbean escape, Mustique in the final episode of season three.

Belvoir Castle: The Crown couldn’t film in the Queen’s actual Windsor home, so they did the next best thing, and recreated her residence at Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire. %u201CIt was a great honour to have The Crown filming in our home for a third season,” the Duchess of Rutland told Town&Country magazine.

Apart from all of this, Goldsmiths Hall in London was also used to stand in as various offices of the palace secretaries. Hedsor House was used in scenes for the Prime Minister’s Downing Street residence. Outside footage of the Queen’s residence was lensed at Ardverikie Castle in Scotland. For the home of Prince Charles and Diana, the show used Brocket Hall, located in Hertfordshire. The fourth season finale follows the Princess of Wales on her first solo trip to New York. However, instead of United States, it was filmed in Manchester.
