The death of four infants within a span of approximately 11 months triggered the baby-care product giant Fisher-Price to recall select products. Even though it is unclear what caused the deaths of the babies, the products seem to be a common factor.

According to information provided by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, the infants were left in the soothers on their backs but were later found to be lying on their stomachs.

In a recent press release, the company announced that it will be retracting the ‘4-in-1 Rock ‘n Glide Soother’ and ‘2-in-1 Soothe ‘n Play Glider’, even though the USCPSC said that there have been no deaths reported in the latter.

The company has been tied to a similar controversy in 2019. 4.7 million similar products were recalled after 30 deaths of infants were reported over the year, all of which were tied to the same product.

The acting chairman of the USCPSC, Robert Adler, expressed his concern and remorse around the incidents and said that “loving parents put their babies in these products never expecting a tragedy.

He added, “Inclined products, such as gliders, soothers, rockers and swings are not safe for infant sleep, due to the risk of suffocation”, according to a report from NPR.

The recent call back will impact over 200,000 such products, which have been sold across the US and Canada. The company also urged people to stop using the product if they had already purchased it while citing safety concerns.
