Gautam Adani, billionaire
industrialist and Adani Group’s chairperson has topped the IIFL Wealth Hurun
list of richest Indians in 2022, with Reliance Industries’ Mukesh Ambani on the
second spot. Adani has climbed to the top position and is the richest
individual in India with a wealth of Rs 10.94 lakh crore.

Adani’s wealth has increased by
116% in the last one year and he has added Rs 5.88 lakh crore in absolute terms,
according to IFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2022. He added Rs 1,612 crore per
day over the last year, the release stated. This is the first instance in 10
years when Mukesh Ambani has missed the top ranking despite his wealth
increasing by 11% in the last year. He owns a fortune of Rs 7.48 lakh crore and
it has increased by 115% in the last five years, according to IIFL Wealth.

Serum Institute of India’s (SII)
Cyrus S Poonawalla, secured the third position on the list with his wealth
increasing by Rs 41,700 crore in the last year. Poonawalla’s privately owned
company is the world’s largest vaccine maker and has recently developed the
country’s first cervical cancer shot that will hit the market soon. His wealth
is pegged at Rs 2.05 lakh crore.

Next on the top 10 rich list in
chronological order are HCL Founder Shiv Nadar’s family (Rs 1.85 lakh crore),
DMart Founder Radhakishan Damani (Rs 1.75 lakh crore), Vinod Shantilal Adani
(Rs 1.69 lakh crore), SP Hinduja (Rs 1.65 lakh crore), LN Mittal (Rs 1.51 lakh
crore), Dilip Sanghvi (Rs 1.33 lakh crore) and Uday Kotak (Rs 1.19 lakh crore).

While Gautam Adani and family grew
their wealth 15.4 times in five years, Vinod Shantilal Adani & family grew
their wealth by 9.5 times, Shiv Nadar & family grew their wealth by 5
times, followed by Radhakishan Damani & family, who grew their wealth by
3.8 times in five years, as per the report.

The list saw several additions
this year as pharma tycoon Dilip Sanghvi and banking magnate Uday Kotak
re-entered the top 10 list.

According to the report, 14
individuals entered the top 100 of IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List in 2022.
This is for the first time ever since the annual reports were released that the
total wealth of the listers has grown by Rs 100 lakh crore.

Nykaa founder Falguni Nayar and
Ravi Modi of Vedant Fashions entered the top 100, as their companies were
listed and values were unlocked. Falguni Nayar overtook Kiran Muzumdar-Shaw to
be the richest self-made Indian woman on the list.

Falguni Nayar’s wealth increased
by 345% and her rank moved up by 169 to the 33rd. Similarly, Ravi Modi’s wealth
grew by 376% and he moved up 205 ranks to claim the 41st position in the list.

The youngest on the list is
19-year-old Zepto founder Kaivalya Vohra, whose wealth is estimated at Rs 1,000
crore. Co-founder of Confluent, a streaming data technology company, Neha
Narkhede is the youngest self-made woman entrepreneur in India, Hurun report
says.

Additionally,
43 individuals from the real estate sector made it to the list. The sector
reported an 18% cumulative change in wealth compared to last year. DLF’s Rajiv
Singh and family topped the list among real estate developers with a wealth of
Rs 61,300 crore followed by Chandru Raheja and family with a wealth of Rs
47,200 crore.
