Rob Walton, the eldest son of Walmart founder Sam Walton, is likely going to purchase the NFL franchise Denver Broncos for $4.5 billion, Forbes reported, adding that the winning bid is expected to be announced as “early as this month.”

Who is Rob Walton?

Born on October 28, 1944, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Rob Walton is one of the four children of Sam Walton, the co-founder of the American multinational retail corporation Walmart.

Walton went to The College of Wooster and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas in the year 1966. He went on to get his Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School in 1969.

Post this, he joined Conner & Winters, the law firm that represented Walmart. In 1978, he left the firm to join Walmart as a senior vice president. Four years later, he was made appointed vice-chairman. 

On April 7, 1992, two days after his father’s demise, he was named chairman of the board of directors. He served as chairman from 1992 to 2015 before he was replaced by his son-in-law, Greg Penner, who still sits on the company’s board.

The 78-year-old was married to Patricia Rawlings Walton until their divorce in the late 1970s. He then married his second wife Carolyn Funk. They were married till the year 2000 when they got divorced. Rob married Melani Lowman Walton in 2005.

He has three children from his first marriage – son Sam Walton, daughter Carrie Walton Penner and son Ben Walton.
