The colleges
which are affiliated with the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in
Karnataka where engineering students will be introduced to courses such as
health, wellness and global medical technology. 
The new courses will be introduced as a part of revised curriculum.  The VTU is expected to introduce from this
2021-22 academic year in accordance with the national Education Policy (NEP).

In a video
meeting conducted by Higher Education Minister C N Ashwathnarayan on Monday
where Professor B Karisiddappa who is a current Vice chancellor of VTU said a
subject named “Biology for Engineers” has been introduced in the fourth
semester.

“This is
included considering the importance of engineering in recent global medical
technology. Further, courses on environment studies and ‘Music and Mechanical
Vibrations’ have also been added,” Professor B Karisiddappa said.

The Vice
-Chancellor also informed the minister on the launch of a subject named
“foundations of health science” which is expected to emphasize the health and
well-being of emerging engineers.

 “Such ability enhancement courses had been
added to make students globally competitive,” Prof. Karisiddappa said.

After that Vice-Chancellor
also stated that four colleges affiliated with the VTU University had proposed to
teach Undergraduate engineering (BE) courses in Kannada.

 “An approval for the same is now awaited from
the Higher Education Department,” he said.

Meanwhile,
Ashwathnarayan after the meeting said students will get more options this year
under open selection. “Open electives will be strengthened and regulations
will be amended against the Board of Education to facilitate timely decisions
regarding curriculum revitalization and the introduction of new courses,”
he said.

At the same
time, University has decided to undertake a 24-week internship course in all
engineering courses while promoting various degree training for those who have
the opportunity to go abroad.
