After terrorists crashed two airplanes into the World
Trade Center’s Twin Towers on September 11, 2001, killing more than 3,000
innocent civilians, it dawned upon the media industry producers to make
alterations to some of the earlier movies. Let’s take a look at some of those
movies, television shows and games which were changed to reflect the post
9/11 reality.

Spider-Man

A trailer from the comic series ‘Spider-Man’ showed the
character snare a chopper between the twin towers. It was pulled out, the
towers were scrubbed out from the scenes and a spidey hanging onto a flagpole
beside a waving American flag was added.

Sex &
the city

The fourth season was to begin airing from
January 2002. All the shots containing scenes of the twin towers had to be
removed. Opening credits, too, had shots of the towers which were replaced with
a globe covered with snow.

Big Brother

The contestants in the reality show had to be
kept in isolation and were not told of the outside world affairs. But one of
the contestants’ cousin died in the 9/11 crash post which the situation had to
be revealed.

Friends

An episode of American sitcom ‘Friends‘ had to be altered after the September 11 attacks on the United States. The third episode of season 8 had a subplot wherein the character Chandler jokes about explosives at the airport leading to his detention as he and Monica were about to board an aircraft for their honeymoon. It was subsequently removed following the attacks.
