“One by one they are all leaving us…,” Amitabh Bachchan posted on his official Blog page remembering the 85-year-old Soumitra Chatterjee who breathed his last on Sunday after more than a month-long fight with post novel coronavirus ailments.

The 78-year-old says that he was “a prolific giant and icon”

“ .. a legend of the Bengal Film Industry .. passes away .. just prayers for the departed soul and an helplessness .. met him last at the IFFI at Kolkata .. a gentle human , humble and filled with grace .. (sic),” he wrote.

Chatterjee was admitted to the hospital on October 6 after he tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Later, he was moved to ICU as COVID-19 encephalopathy set in, creating a problem for his central nervous system and causing renal dysfunction.

Big B “wonders what else can one ever script now after this sad news.”

“ .. each day brings a setback .. one gets up in the morning to live another day, to work, and to exist. I suppose that is all the very best one can think of (sic),” he further expressed and added that one must “learn to live in such” as “nature guides us, delivers us, tells us where we are going wrong and how now to exist and conduct ourselves.”

Chatterjee is now survived by wife Deepa Chatterjee, daughter Poulomi Basu, and son Sougata Chatterjee.
