Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to premiere on November 11, 2022 and will be played by actress Dominique Thorn. The character Ironheart and her alter-ego Riri Williams will also have their own series of the same name released in 2023 as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Five.
While it is not clear exactly how large a role will the new character play in Wakanda Forever, Ironheart’s appearance in Marvel Comics is a more recent affair. Riri Williams was introduced to the world in Invincible Iron Man Volume 2, #7 in 2016 as a 15-year-old shy, introverted engineering student and super-genius. Studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on scholarship, Williams managed to reverse engineer the Iron Man armour and uses it to stop two inmates who escape from a prison in New Mexico.
Shortly after, Williams is visited by Tony Stark himself who validates her desire to become a superhero. She eventually helps Stark in the second Civil War comic run. The billionaire genius had already planned ahead for someone to take over should anything happen to him. After the events of the second Civil War left him incapacitated, an AI he left behind helped Williams complete her suit.
Taking on the name Ironheart, in honor of her best friend and step-father killed in a drive-by shooting, she watches over Chicago as a superhero.
