Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, also known as Jahar, has been on death row for his involvement in the Boston Marathon Bombing in 2013. Tsarnaev, along with his brother Tamerlan, planted homemade pressure cooker bombs near the finish line of the race, killing three people and injuring 281 others. The bombing prompted a massive manhunt, during which the brothers shot and killed an MIT police officer, and engaged in a shootout with the police.

Tamerlan was killed during the shootout, while Dzhokhar managed to escape in an SUV. He was later found seriously injured and hiding in a boat just outside the perimeter of the police search. Dzhokhar was charged with using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction resulting in death, as well as malicious destruction of property resulting in death.

In 2015, Dzhokhar was found guilty of all 30 counts against him, including the use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence causing death and carjacking resulting in serious bodily injury. He was sentenced to death, but the sentence was vacated upon appeal in 2020.

However, in March 2022, the US Supreme Court upheld the original death sentence, and Dzhokhar was placed back on death row. While an execution date has not been scheduled yet, he remains in custody awaiting his fate.
