A wedding ceremony between a merchant navy officer and the daughter of an army officer in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, took a turn for the worse when both the bride and the groom tested positive for COVID-19 after tying the knot, reported Times News Network on Sunday.

Following the wedding ceremony the groom’s mother, sister and two maternal uncles also contracted the virus and tested positive for COVID-19.

The aunt who tested positive was admitted to the Doon Hospital, reported TNN and is currently undergoing dialysis. Both uncles who contracted the virus died of the disease within 10 days of attending the wedding ceremony.

The bridegroom stated that all 100 guests who attended the wedding had been contacted following their COVID-19 positive result.

Following the wedding on November 20, the bridegroom and his wife took a COVID-19 test as a precaution as they wanted to travel to Himachal Pradesh, reported TOI quoting the groom.

Uttarakhand currently has over 77,000 COVID-19 cases and have recorded 1,200 plus deaths since the first case was recorded on March 15. The district of Dehradun has recorded 21,000 plus COVID-19 cases since March, with 685 deaths being reported.
