Just hours before the family issued a statement announcing the actor’s death, Angus Cloud’s mother contacted 911 to report a “possible overdose” in her Oakland home on Monday morning, according to TMZ. According to reports, Cloud’s mother called emergency services at around 11:30 a.m. local time and reported that her son had no pulse. After the Oakland Fire Department and Oakland Police Department responded to the call, Cloud was later declared dead at the scene. He was 25.
When Cloud returned to Ireland, where his late father had just been buried, he reportedly struggled with his mental health, according to a source close to the family. According to reports, Cloud was using his family’s residence in Oakland as support. The family claimed in their statement that Cloud “intensely struggled with the loss” of his father and expressed their hope that his passing would serve as “a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence.” Police are looking into the incident, although no official cause of death has been established.
“We hope the world remembers him for his humor, laughter and love for everyone,” the family said. “We ask for privacy at this time as we are still processing this devastating loss.”
In a Twitter statement, HBO said it was “incredibly saddened” by news of Cloud’s death, and that he had been “immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family.”
