To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the programme, a new Doctor Who logo has been made.

To celebrate Doctor Who Day, which is observed annually on November 23 to mark the airing of the sci-fi series’ debut episode on the broadcaster in 1963, the BBC presented a design inspired by diamonds on Twitter.

“This #DoctorWhoDay we’re celebrating the past, the present and the future,”
Here’s your first look at a special #DoctorWho logo to celebrate the show’s diamond anniversary next year in 2023,” Doctor Who’s official account tweeted.

The new logo, which was presented last month and restored the traditional diamond form from Tom Baker’s tenure as the Fourth Doctor in the 1970s, is a variation of this one.

Fans have had a lot of thrilling new information to follow in recent months, starting with the announcement of Ncuti Gatwa, the star of Sex Education, as the TARDIS’ newest occupant in May.

When the thirteenth Doctor regenerated into a new incarnation and was played by David Tennant, who previously played the Tenth Doctor from 2005 to 2010 and returned for a special episode in 2013, Jodie Whittaker’s farewell episode, The Power of the Doctor, concluded on an unexpected note.

Then, Millie Gibson was revealed as Gatwa’s companion during last week’s Children in Need telethon. The celebrity, who is best known for her role as Kelly Neelan in Coronation Street, will play Ruby Sunday in the upcoming season.

“Whilst still being in total disbelief, I am beyond honoured to be cast as the Doctor’s companion. It is a gift of a role, and a dream come true, and I will do everything to try and fill the boots the fellow companions have travelled in before me. And what better way to do that than being by the fabulous Ncuti Gatwa’s side, I just can’t wait to get started,” Gibson said.

She is “full of talent, strength, has a mischievous twinkle in her eye, and is sharp as a razor,” according to her new co-star Gatwa.

She “caught all of our attention with her effervescence from the moment she walked into the room and then reinforced that attention with the sheer torque of her talent,” he continued. “Sailing the universe with Millie is going to be such a crazy and thrilling adventure, I can’t wait!”

Russell T. Davies, the creator of the Doctor Who television series, praised Gibson as “brilliant, dynamic, clever and a wonderful actor” and quipped that while she had endured “chases, weapons, and sieges” while on Coronation Street, “that’s nothing compared to what lies ahead for Ruby Sunday.”

For three special episodes scheduled to run in November 2023 to commemorate the 60th anniversary, Tennant will return. Catherine Tate, who formerly played Donna Noble, will also appear.

Gatwa will then be ready to take control of the TARDIS as the 14th Doctor, and his first episode is scheduled to premiere “during the holiday season” in 2023.
