British series ‘Doctor Who’ has been making headlines with its rumoured Season
14 protagonist, David Tennant. The character of the Doctor has been portrayed by many over
the years, but only a few actors have been able to do justice to it.

Here are some of the most iconic
Doctors that have been on the show-

William
Hartnell (1963-66)

Commencing with the man who
started it all, William Hartnell’s portrayal of the Doctor was gripping and intricate.
From mischievous bits to comedic sequences, Hartnell’s performance paved the
way for future actors who would play the character.

Tom Baker (1974-81)

In his seven-season
run, Tom Baker gave the show some of its highest rankings, all thanks to his
gripping voice and classic hat-scarf ensemble. Despite having occasional bits of
mediocrity, Baker made it a point to always rise from the ashes and do justice to the
character with his acting prowess.

Matt Smith (2010-13)

Succeeding Tennant, Matt Smith portrayed the Doctor as a frantic
professor stuck in a young man’s body. Smith’s versatility of going from a cheerful guy to a stoic one entertained viewers. His dynamic with duo Amy and Rory was the cherry on
top during his tenure. Smith’s prowess can be seen in the episode titled ‘The Lodger’,
an episode also filled with comedy sequences from James Corden and Daisy Haggard.
