As per Wikipedia, the opening scene of the movie was filmed at The Kaufmann House in Palm Springs, California. Wilde was inspired by the house’s architecture and hung a photograph of the house on her wall while she was working on the script of the film. The house has been described as “an architectural marvel that helped define the modernist aesthetic of the resort city of Palm Springs”.
Wilde mentioned to Variety, “To be there was huge. To direct the first shot there felt like this really auspicious beginning to this movie which was this love letter not only to film but to architecture, to design, to this era.”
The Kaufman House is the home of the Victory leader Frank (Chris Pine). The house was built in 1946 by Richard Neutra. The location is surreal with mountains and palm trees in the background. The trailer and pre-release stills offer a glimpse into the house that Alice (Florence Pugh) and her husband Jack (Harry Styles) live in. As Alice hovers around her living room we are offered shots of velvet furniture, plush cream shag rugs, and baby blue curtains. As per the reports, the crew also used Azul Circus in the Canyon View Estates for the exterior of the homes.
