Olivia Wilde is an American actress and filmmaker. Born in New York City on March 10, 1984, she belonged to a family of journalists and writers. Her father Andrew Cockburn is a famous British journalist and her mother Leslie Cockburn was a producer of the American TV show, 60 Minutes and a journalist. Her grandfather was a well-known journalist and writer and she is the cousin of Emma Tennant, who is a novelist.

She did her schooling from Massachusetts and graduated from Dublin’s Gaiety School of Acting. Olivia Wilde holds dual citizenship of America and Ireland. She was married to Italian filmmaker and musician Tao Ruspoli but got divorced in 2011. She then married American actor and comedian Jason Sudeikis in 2013 and they got divorced in 2020. In the following year, she started dating Harry Styles, an English singer.

She started her career in 2003 by portraying the character of Jewel Goldman in the TV series Skin. She gained prominence for her TV roles as Alex Kelly in The O.C. and Remy Hadley in House. After her huge success in the TV series House, she started producing many shows. In 2013, she also produced and starred in the biographical drama, Rush. Wilde produced a documentary short film Body Team 12 in 2015. The documentary was about dealing with dead bodies during the Ebola outbreak and it was screened at the Tribeca Film Festival and was subsequently nominated for an Academy Award.

In 2008, Olivia Wilde campaigned with actors Justin Long and her then-current House cast-mate Kal Penn in support of the Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama. Her mother was also a Democratic nominee in the 2018 US midterm elections for Virginia’s 5th congressional district. She is also a women’s rights activist. Wilde took part in the 2017 Women’s March in Washington DC and she also made an appearance during the 2018 Women’s March in Los Angeles. She is a supporter of various non-profit organizations like Planned Parenthood and Time’s Up. 

She received many nominations and awards which include the Jury Award for Best Actress at US Comedy Arts Festival, the Rising Star Award at Vail Film Festival and many others. Now she will also star as Lois Lane in the upcoming animated movie DC League of Super-Pets.
