Ellen Pompeo, the TV star whom fans have been seeing don the character of Meredith Grey in the ABC drama Grey’s Anatomy, has announced her departure from the show in an emotional post on Instagram.

In the post, Pompeo, 53, thanked the show’s fans for showering her with love and appreciation throughout her run on the show. Pompeo’s post read, “I am eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support you have all shown me, Meredith GREY and the show for 19 seasons! Through it all….none of it …would have been possible without the best fans in the world. You all are RIDERS and you all have made the ride so fun and ICONIC!!”

Pompeo further added, “I love you madly and appreciate you right back. This isn’t your first time on the rollercoaster… you know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to visit. With a lot of love and immense gratitude”.

Pompeo is now set to leave the show in January, but will stay on as the narrator for the 19th season. She will also return for the finale of the season in spring 2023.

Earlier reports suggested that Pompeo will be appearing in the show’s 19th season as a guest since she will be busy filming another series. Rumours about a Grey’s Anatomy spinoff with co-star Patrick Dempsey has also been doing the rounds, but the latter has now denied the same.

In an interview with EW, Dempsey said, “It just is a real testament to the fans that they want to see that couple still together and what an impact it is”, further adding, “But no, I haven’t read anything, I haven’t seen anything, and I haven’t talked to her about it.”
