It’s a usual day, you are busy attending calls, organising
meetings, cooking food, and then you put your feet up, put your phone on DND,
start a film on-screen, and you enter another world, away from your troubles.
Such is the power of cinema.

With COVID-19 pushing its way into almost every aspect of
our life and snatching away our liberties, our lives were reduced to deriving
happiness from trips to the grocery store, baking our own cake for our birthday
celebrations, and sending virtual hugs to our friends. Cinema is the one thing
that didn’t leave our side. From theatres to OTT platforms, the journey was a bit
tough, but the films kept us going through these tough times, often being the
harbinger of hope.

For all film aficionados, here is a list of five Bollywood movies
slated for release in January 2021:

1.       Ram Prasad ki Tehrvi

From the makers of ‘Newton’ and ‘Masaan’, ‘Ram
Prasad ki Tehrvi’ recites a tale about a quirky middle class family where the
demise of the head of the family pulls the curtain on the interpersonal relationships
among his five children. The film features an ensemble cast like Naseeruddin
Shah, Supriya Pathak, Konkana Sen Sharma, Vinay Pathak and Vikrant Massey.

The
widowed mother is finding her way through life without her husband by her side,
balancing traditions and familial obligations. ‘Ram Prasad ki Tehrvi’ will hit
the theatres on January 1, 2021.

2.       Sardar Udham Singh

‘Sardar Udham Singh’, helmed by Shoojit
Sircar and featuring Vicky Kaushal in the lead role, is a biopic on Sardar
Udham Singh, the revolutionary who assassinated Michael O’Dwyer in London in
1940. O’Dwyer was the former Lieutenant Governor of
Punjab in British India in 1940, who ordered the Jallianwala Bagh massacre on
April 13, 1919. The film is reportedly set to release on January 15, 2021.

3.       The White Tiger

‘The White
Tiger’ revolves around the story of Balram Halwai, and his journey from a poor
villager to a successful entrepreneur. Destined to be a servant, Halwai is a
driver for Ashok, played by Rajkumar Rao, and Pinky, portrayed by Priyanka
Chopra Jonas.

One incident changes their lives – Balram realises his loyalty
will not get him anywhere and fights against the class divide to carve his own
path. Based on the New York Times bestseller and 2008 Man Booker
Prize-winning novel by Arvind Adiga, ‘The White Tiger’ is slated to release on
January 22, 2021 on Netflix.

4.       83

Steered by director Kabir Khan, sports drama ‘83’ documents
the historical victory of the Indian cricket team in the 1983 cricket World Cup
under the captaincy of the legend, Kapil Dev. Ranveer Singh will assume the
role of the ‘Haryana Hurricane’, and the Romi Dev’s role will be played his
wife Deepika Padukone.
