Earlier this year, Warner Bros. announced its intention to acquire the rights to the video game franchise Warhammer 40,000. Now, in a recent interview with IGN Entertainment, Amazon Prime Video’s Roy Price revealed that Henry Cavill will star as the protagonist of their upcoming TV series for the franchise.

In his new role as Commander Karas-40K (whose name is derived from his birthdate being 41st millennium), Henry Cavill will be playing a hero feared by alien races throughout the galaxy. This character has been dead for centuries and is only now undead due to living past his natural lifespan thanks to science and sorcery alike.

“I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me. The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honor and the responsibility,” claimed Cavill. He also added “I couldn’t be more grateful for all the hard work put in by Vertigo, Amazon Studios, and Games Workshop to make this happen. One step closer to making a nigh-on lifelong dream come true.”

Henry Cavill may play more than one character in this upcoming anthology series, but he will be playing one of the series’ main characters. There isn’t any word yet on who will play the other lead characters.

Henry Cavill has starred in several blockbusters throughout his career and currently plays The Man of Steel in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He is also set to star in Justice League.

“I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,” he says in an Instagram post, despite Gunn’s hints that the actor could be part of the DC universe in another capacity. “My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will.”

Warner Bros. has been working to develop an adaptation of the Warhammer 40,000 franchise for years, but the film rights have been changing hands over the years. The passage of time has allowed license holders and studios like Amazon to repurchase the rights and begin developing their projects.
