Anurag Kashyap is undoubtedly one of Bollywood’s most talented and blatantly honest directors. He has donned several hats – Anurag has also worked as a screenwriter and producer for several movies, and has tried his hands on acting in 2011 with Tigmanshu Dhulia’s crime thriller ‘Shagird’.

Known for his tongue in cheek remarks, Anurag has often landed himself into controversies.

Anurag on Big B

In 2005, when filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Black’ was released, which had Amitabh Bachhan and Rani Mukherjee in pivotal roles, Anurag Kashyap took a dig at the former’s acting skills. It did not go down well with the megastar. The incident was not escalated much, however, five years later the ‘Choked’ director was at it again when he posted a comment on a social media site saying that the 77-year-old actor was responsible for pushing the release date of Shonali Bose’s ‘Chittagong’ so that Abhishek Bachchan’s ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’ got better profit.

The senior Bachchan rejected the controversy by calling the allegations as baseless.

Anurag on the Khans

After the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s sparked online conversation and the debate about nepotism and the ‘dark side of Bollywood’, director Anurag Kashyap accused Salman Khan and his family (Brother Arbaaz and Sohail) of sabotaging the late actor’s career.

In a long social media post on Facebook, he also alleged that bullying and gaslighting have affected his mental health.

Earlier, Anurag blamed Arbaaz Khan for the alleged fallout with ‘Dabangg’ director and his brother Abhinav Kashyap.

In one of his tweets, Anurag said, “Salman Khan thinks he made my brother’s life, hope he does the same for Arbaaz when he does Dabangg 2.”

Not a person to sit quite, Arbaaz said that Salman had already made his life with Dabangg. He further said Abhinav was given an opportunity by them when his brother did not help him, after which Anurag publicly apologised after releasing his mistake.

Anurag on Karan Johar

Anurag lashed out at Karan Johar on his show during a rapid-fire round. He asked how can anyone ask who is the best actor among Hrithik, Abhishek, Salman, and SRK. Anurag was also alleged to have called it a crappy show.

Upset Karan retorted that Anurag perhaps needed a psychiatrist! Of course, the two later patched up.

Anurag on Ram Gopal Varma

In 2007, when the director made ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag’, Anurag had said that he had lost the plot. He went on to say that he has never watched any of Varma’s movies, since after watching them he may have told RGV things he would not want to hear.

In ‘Coffee with Karan’, when the latter said, “Ram Gopal Varma is…” Anurag said, “Ram Gopal was, he is not ‘is’ anymore.”

On the work front, Anurag Kashyap will next be directing ‘Cargo’, ‘Womaniya’, and ‘Gulab Jamun’.
