Since it opened in theatres, Rajamouli’s RRR has been making headlines; its current arrival in the West, made possible via Netflix and US screenings, is the icing on the cake. Additionally, the movie won the Saturn Award for Best International Film. RRR was selected by the National Board of Review as one of the top ten movies of the year. A second-place finish for the magnum opus in the Best Picture category at the 2022 Hollywood Critics Association Midseason Awards was also secured for it.

In an interview with Indiewire, SS Rajamouli said, “Obviously, I’m happy about it. I can’t pinpoint why it happened, but I would say a part of it is that Western audiences are not getting the full-blown action of Masala movies. Maybe Hollywood movies aren’t giving them enough of that. That’s what I gather when I look at the response. In any case, that really, really surprised me, and I’m really, really happy about it.”
