Answer: Lord Shiva
Lord Shiva, also known as Mahadev or Hara or Maheshwar, is one of the three principal deities of Hinduism. He is referred to as the Supreme God within Shaivism, one of the faiths within Hinduism. Lord Shiva is referred to as the Destroyer within the Holy Trinity, known as Trimurti, which also includes Brahma – the creator and Vishnu – the moderator or preserver.
Lord Shiva has 108 names. Some of them are – Shambhu, Shankar, Trilochan and Rudra.
Lord Shiva is represented in a variety of forms like Nataraja or Ardhanarishvara. His female consort is also known as by numerous names like Kali, Durga, Sati, Parvati and so forth. The divine couple resides in Kailash, along with their two sons – Skanda and Ganesha.
The image of Lord Shiva is such that there is a serpent wrapped around his neck, and there is a crescent moon on his matted hair (jatamakuta), from the tip of which the holy river Ganga emerges. There is a third eye on his forehead which is believed to burn everything to ashes when open (destroyer). The look completes with a trishula (a three edged weapon) and a damru (a small instrument of percussion). He is depicted in images and paintings in this way, with a blue neck (nilkantha). The neck is blue from the poison that he hold there – a poison that had emerged from the churning of the cosmic ocean, that had the potential to destroy the entire world.
Usually, however, he is worshipped in the form of Lingam which is called the Shiva Lingam.
Lord Shiva is worshipped widely in India, Nepal, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and so forth.
