Meleveetil Damodaran was appointed as the Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of Indigo in July this year. Damodaran is the former chairman of SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India). He was associated with the board between February 2005 to February 2008.
He has also previously worked with the Unit Trust of India (UTI) and Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI). During his three-year stint at SEBI, he was also elected as the Chairman of the Emerging Markets Committee, which is a wing of the International Organisation of Securities Commission.
Earlier this year in April, Indigo also appointed former Shell India chairman Vikram Singh Mehta and former Indian Air Force (IAF) chief B S Dhanoa as independent non-executive directors.
Their appointment is “subject to receipt of security clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and approval of the members of the company,” IndiGo said in a statement.
Dhanoa was IAF chief between January 1, 2017 and September 30, 2019, and Mehta was chairman of Shell Group of companies in India between 1994-2012.
Mehta is currently chairman and distinguished fellow of Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CESP).
