Rapper Lil Nas X has come under fire on social media after putting out a tweet about ‘gays’ in Africa. Many people on Twitter have spoken out against the fact that it is incredibly insensitive of him to put out a tweet like that, especially in light of serious anti-gay legislation in Uganda.

The “Old Town Road” rapper tweeted on Wednesday, saying, “where do the gays be in africa i wanna come there”. The tweet was seen to be in bad taste as Uganda parliament passed one of the most sweeping anti-gay legislations in the world.

Apparently, citizens can be sentenced to life behind bars for committing gay sex acts. They can be sentenced to death for “aggravated homosexuality.” This is a broad term to include sex acts committed by force as well as incest.

One user wrote, “This is so insensitive especially after Uganda just announced the harsh punishment of even identifying as being LGBTQ.” Many others backed these same sentiments.

Lil Nas X has also been flirting with Saweetie lately. In an interview with E! News, Saweetie revealed that her “celebrity guy crush” was none other than Lil Nas X. She shared that she thought “he is so fine,” and added that “he look better than me … I be like, ‘What is your skin regimen?’”

It didn’t take long for Lil Nas to hear about Saweetie’s confession. Retweeting a fan account that posted a clip of Saweetie’s response, he joked that he was ready to switch teams for her. “Goodbye lgbt community, we had a great run,” he wrote next to a heart emoji.
