Lil Tay, a 14-year-old rapper and influencer, has died. Tay is said to have had a strained relationship with her father, Christopher Hope. Her posts concerning her father’s alleged abuse have resurfaced since her death.

Lil Tay rose to fame in 2017 owing to her curse-filled statements boasting about her mansions, automobiles, and large sums of money. In 2018, she vanished from the internet after a video featuring a voice providing her lines from behind the camera emerged, leading some to believe it was her brother.

According to Insider, a conflict over the course of her career then developed, pitting her mother Angela Tian and brother against her father, manager, and promoter.

After being inactive for several years, Lil Tay‘s Instagram account was reactivated in 2021 when posts seemingly from her brother accused their father of molesting Tay and stealing all of her money. Hope responded to these accusations at the time with a cease and desist letter.

Her death was announced in a post on her personal Instagram account on Wednesday. “It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of our beloved Claire’s sudden and tragic passing,” the statement shared to Hope’s 3.3 million followers said. “We have no words to express the unbearable loss and indescribable pain. This outcome was entirely unexpected, and has left us all in shock.”

Her brother Jason Tian was also reported to have died in the announcement. According to the statement, both cases are reportedly still being investigated. “Her brother’s passing adds an even more unimaginable depth to our grief. During this time of immense sorrow, we kindly ask for privacy as we grieve this overwhelming loss, as the circumstances surrounding Claire and her brother’s passing are still under investigation.”
